Izzy is a Postdoctoral Fellow conducting therapy services at MiraCare. She completed her doctoral degree in clinical psychology at Adler University, specializing in the treatment of children. Izzy’s previous clinical experience includes working with children by providing therapy and neurofeedback at private practices and administering and scoring psychological testing at a therapeutic day school. Izzy has additional experience working with children and their families through nannying, camp counseling, and working in a child development laboratory school for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. She has also worked with individuals across the lifespan through the National Institute of Mental Health in Sri Lanka.
Izzy’s clinical interests include working with children and their families through play, art, sand tray, and/or talk therapy to help them manage their emotions, find their strengths, improve their interpersonal connections, and thrive. To do so, she enjoys modeling a safe and healthy relationship, building cognitive flexibility, and helping children and their families learn how to constructively communicate their emotions and thoughts in a developmentally appropriate way. She enjoys helping patients learn to deal with behavioral difficulties commonly associated with parent-child relationships, family difficulties, anxiety, anger, and adjustment problems more effectively.
Izzy acknowledges how crucial building a strong relationship with each patient is and seeks to foster a warm, safe, and fun environment to allow them to feel heard, understood, and accepted. She trusts that every person carries the ability to thrive and grow, and she aims to help them learn and tap into their own resources to do so. Izzy mainly utilizes Child-Centered Play Therapy, which she believes allows children to express and process their inner experiences and feelings through play and symbols in a developmentally appropriate way.
In her free time, Izzy loves to spend quality time with her two fluffy dogs, friends, and family. She loves making art, reading, decorating her home, and spending time in nature.
