Dr. Kononova graduated from medical school in Kiev, Ukraine in 1990. She has over 30 years of diverse experience, especially in psychiatry. After completing her psychiatry residency training at the University of Missouri at Kansas City she worked as assistant professor at UMKC dedicating time to treatment of patients and education of medical students and residents. Before working in the outpatient setting, she worked extensively with mentally ill patients at AMITA Medical Center in Joliet, IL and was Medical Director of Psychiatric services for 6 years. Her experience has honed her diagnostic skills and has allowed her to gain experience treating a variety of psychopathologies. She specializes in diagnosis and treatment of mood disorders (e.g. bipolar affective disorder, major depressive disorder), anxiety as well as psychosis driven disorders (e.g schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder). She is interested in patient’s day to day experience, backgrounds, families, culture and strongly believes in providing a well-rounded approach to individualized care.
