EDUCATION

Bachelor’s Degree: University of Illinois, Urbana, Illinois
Doctorate Degree: The Chicago School of Professional Psychology

Dr. O has been working at MiraCare since 2019 and specializes in treating teen and young adults. In addition to traditional forms of therapy, he loves using video games, tabletop games, and comic books in therapy to better connect with his clients and explore new ways to learn and grow. As a lifelong gamer who has published research on the effects video games have on players, as well as how game design can improve higher education, he recognizes that gaming has the potential to be a fantastic meaningful experience or a hindrance to personal growth. Some of his favorite games include Apex Legends, Overwatch, and Mario Kart, and he can even be found streaming on Twitch! In therapy, he usually works from what’s called a “Humanistic” perspective, meaning he approaches each client with an understanding that they possess the ability to overcome their own struggles; however, sometimes people feel stuck in our current situation. Through a supportive, caring relationship with their therapist, clients can discover how to become unstuck and move confidently toward improvement.
